When it comes to authentic Italian cuisine, there are several staples one expects to find on the menu; linguine, for instance. As the number one restaurant for fine dining in Bedford and Manchester, you can count on the chefs at Piccola Italia to deliver such choices. And, you better believe they are preparing for the upcoming National Linguine Day!
Because we’re so excited about celebrating one of the world’s oldest kinds of pasta, we are dedicating this article entirely to linguine. Buon Appetito!
Let’s start with the facts.
In Italian, linguine translated means ‘little tongues.’ First appearing in the early 1700s, linguine was traditionally served with a pesto sauce, green beans, and potatoes. This combination remains a popular choice in Liguria to this day. Of course, many variations have come about over the years. One of our customer’s favorites is linguini with clam sauce.

An Easy Linguine Recipe
At Piccola, our chefs proudly offer this dish with your choice of a white or red clam sauce to ensure a satisfying experience. However, if you are unable to join us, here is a quick and easy white clam sauce to try at home.
Ingredients:
- 2 cans of minced clams, undrained
- 1 teaspoon of minced, sauteed garlic
- ¼ tablespoon of dried basil
- 1 tablespoon of dried parsley
- Red pepper flakes to taste *optional
Begin by boiling salted water to cook your linguine. In a separate pan, combine all ingredients over medium heat to a slow boil. Combine, top with parmesan, serve, and enjoy!
